About the role

Senior Software Engineer position focusing on large-scale distributed services, data/ML infrastructure, AI-first development, security as code, and cross-team ownership within Microsoft's 365 Intelligent Conversation and Communications Cloud ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Build large-scale distributed services. Design, develop, and operate geo-distributed services on Kubernetes, Azure Cosmos DB, and Redis.
  • Build data and ML infrastructure. Design and run large-scale data ingestion, real-time aggregation, and ML systems on Azure Data Lake, Azure ML, and Stream Analytics.
  • Develop AI-first. Use AI tools with discipline across the development lifecycle; own the quality of AI outputs and raise the team's AI-assisted engineering bar.
  • Own architecture and design. Identify dependencies, lead design documents, weigh trade-offs, ensure scale, resiliency, performance, cost, disaster recovery, and compliance.
  • Lead by example in code and code review. Write and mentor others to write extensible, maintainable, well-tested, secure code.
  • Deliver best-in-class engineering. Keep services well-defined, modular, secure, reliable, diagnosable, observable, and reusable.
  • Treat security as code. Define security invariants, threat models, deployment gates, apply least-access principles, and embed AI safety features.
  • Ship safely. Plan work with flighting, feature flags, experiments, rollback plans, and zero-touch automated deployment.
  • Drive cross-team execution. Coordinate with PMs and stakeholders to plan releases across multiple groups.
  • Own the live site as DRI (on-call owner). Monitor for degradation/outages, lead incident mitigation and postmortems, improve observability and troubleshooting guides.
  • Keep learning and share what you learn. Adopt trends/tools/patterns to improve availability, reliability, efficiency, and performance.
  • Think end to end. Understand Microsoft’s business and collaborate to deliver cohesive customer experiences.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
