About the role

Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft CO+I, maintaining datacenter infrastructure, coordinating with vendors, monitoring equipment, and leading onsite incident response to ensure continuous operation of Microsoft online services.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as an operations specialist in one major area of CE operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators) and work on advanced tasks independently.
  • Inspect and supervise critical environment-related facility equipment (e.g., controls, HVAC, mechanical systems), building, and grounds regularly for unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalate per applicable policies and standards.
  • Utilize internal CMMS to track equipment assets and complete work orders for maintenance.
  • Safely and quickly respond to and lead onsite incident response teams for abnormal conditions affecting operations, coordinating with other facilities professionals for corrective repairs without supervision.
  • Enhance, develop new or update EOPs, MOPs, and SOPs related to CE operations and incidents.
  • Under minimal oversight, perform maintenance and repairs following MOPs/SOPs for equipment (electrical, mechanical, cooling systems).
  • Troubleshoot equipment, systems, subsystems, and components within trained discipline.
  • Provide consultation to lower-level colleagues in troubleshooting systems and problems.
  • Follow safety and security requirements (JHA, EH&S, toolbox talks) and Microsoft processes to perform work safely and reliably.
  • Demonstrate Microsoft culture and values in daily work.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 3+ years of mission-critical services experience (e.g., data centers, high-availability environments) OR equivalent experience.
  • Ability to work shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check required upon hire/transfer and every two years.
