About the role

Senior level data and analytics engineering role focused on building and scaling Samsara's marketing data foundation, AI-enabled data products, and self-serve analytics capabilities. Strategic owner of Databricks pipelines, gold layer tables, semantic models, and AI/agent initiatives within the Marketing Data and Analytics team.

Responsibilities

  • Partner on defining the strategy and multi-quarter roadmap for MDA's data and AI foundation.
  • Architect and own Samsara's marketing data infrastructure: ETL/ELT pipelines, Databricks Gold Layer tables, and core data models for segmentation, targeting, automation, and analytics.
  • Design semantic layers, data dictionaries, and structured documentation for self-serve BI and conversational analytics, partnering with the BI team.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions from Marketing, Sales, and R&D into clear requirements and scalable solutions, working autonomously without dedicated PM support.
  • Lead complex, cross-team initiatives end to end: stand up new data pipelines and integrations, manage risk across interdependent teams, ensure reliability and data quality.
  • Serve as the senior technical lead for the team's hardest problems: raise engineering quality, mentor engineers and analysts, remove bottlenecks.
  • Drive strategic use of AI to solve high-impact problems: build AI-enabled data products and agents with reliable integrations and evaluation practices.
  • Identify and automate manual workflows with AI across Marketing and GTM teams, from concept to production and influencing roadmaps.
  • Ship high-quality Python and SQL, guiding agentic coding tools and ensuring AI-generated outputs are verified before production.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as we scale globally.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics engineering, or AI engineering with hands-on data engineering.
  • Expert-level Python and SQL, strong data modeling and DBT experience.
  • Deep experience with data warehouse and lakehouse architectures, ETL/ELT, and the modern data stack; hands-on Databricks (or Snowflake/BigQuery).
  • Experience building semantic layers and structured documentation optimized for AI ingestion and agentic workflows.
  • Agentic coding tools (e.g., Claude Code, Cursor) in regular workflow; ability to verify and own AI-generated output.
  • Experience building, shipping, evaluating, and monitoring LLM or agent systems in production.
  • Track record of leading complex, cross-team data initiatives with independent requirements gathering from stakeholders.
  • Experience supporting Marketing, Sales, or Product teams.
