About the role
Microsoft’s Discovery and Quantum (MDQ) division builds AI, cloud-enabled capabilities, and robotics/platform technologies. The Microsoft Robotics team within MDQ develops a platform for physical intelligence—enabling people, robots, and AI agents to collaborate—through robotics AI models, developer tooling, edge/runtime components, and orchestration layers for end-to-end mission workflows.
Responsibilities
- Implement and test features within core platform components with guidance, including robotics SDKs, cloud-hosted APIs, edge runtimes, and agent orchestration frameworks for deploying interoperable autonomy capabilities into mission workflows.
- Contribute to platform extensibility and integration features, integrating first- and third-party models, partner hardware systems, and customer-specific logic across cloud and edge environments.
- Develop and test data infrastructure for the robotics lifecycle (instrumentation libraries, data acquisition services, human-in-the-loop workflows, dataset versioning and curation pipelines) with data quality practices.
- Apply security, compatibility, and performance practices to features (authentication/authorization across cloud-edge, API versioning, multi-tenant isolation, latency testing for real-time control).
- Improve developer experience by contributing CLI features, SDK functionality, documentation, sample code, and inner-loop workflow improvements.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and agentic coding workflows to improve productivity and software quality; contribute to AI-assisted coding practices with code review and verification of AI-generated changes.
- Collaborate with autonomy, simulation, and evaluation teams to implement and test platform primitives (compute orchestration, data routing, model serving, experiment tracking) supporting ML training, sim-to-real transfer, and online evaluation workloads.
- Participate in technical design and code reviews, contribute to design documentation, and communicate progress, questions, and blockers.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
