About the role

Microsoft Data Center Technician (DCT) role focused on preparing, installing, diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning IT datacenter equipment under guidance, with travel 0-25%, potential 12-hour shifts, on-site at a Microsoft CO+I data center.

Responsibilities

  • Reviews Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and understands impact to work execution; asks questions and may provide feedback on process changes.
  • Completes assigned tickets efficiently aligned with KPIs with guidance; seeks guidance on challenging tickets.
  • Receives guidance to understand standard datacenter processes for equipment handling; understands cabling, network, server, and storage interactions.
  • Ensures compliance with Data Center policies; escalates compliance or operational issues as needed.
  • Maintains awareness of KPIs via dashboards for personal performance.
  • Escalates client interactions as needed; supports cross-functional Data Center processes and training.
  • Performs basic startup/shutdown of hardware; prepares, stages, and sets up equipment per written instructions; may work with others on tasks.
  • Performs decommissions and simple changes; processes data-bearing devices for destruction with guidance.
  • Performs basic diagnostics and troubleshooting with guidance to identify causes and replace faulty components.
  • Learns post-execution verification to align with safety, deployment standards, and Network Design Templates (NDTs).
  • Participates in safety briefings and adheres to EHS training and PPE requirements.
  • Escorts third-party vendors as needed; reports security access concerns.
  • Maintains security and data management training; follows security procedures.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
