About the role

Senior User Researcher at Alan, focusing on grounding product decisions in what members need and experience. Research across the full product cycle using interviews, diary studies, surveys, and usability sessions; collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, analytics, and data science; mentor teammates and grow research culture.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and prioritize the most important questions from across the company and design the right research to answer them.
  • Run interviews, diary studies, surveys, and usability sessions throughout the full product cycle, not just at the end.
  • Turn findings into insights that are clear, compelling, and genuinely useful to teams.
  • Work hand in hand with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers, and collaborate closely with analytics and data science teams to tell a complete story about the product.
  • Help grow research culture across Alan, sharing craft and mentoring teammates.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a product/user researcher in a tech environment, with hands-on expertise in qualitative methods (interviews, diary studies, think-aloud usability testing, direct observation)
  • Solid quantitative research skills (survey design, sampling, crosstabs, core statistical concepts)
  • Sharp critical thinking with ability to scope and deliver focused, actionable insights
  • Strategic mindset to partner with product stakeholders and tie findings to business impact
  • Compelling communication skills to translate findings for diverse audiences
  • Experience mentoring junior researchers or non-researchers
  • Either close to AI: built AI products or strong understanding of AI/LLM in production
  • English fluency (written and spoken); optional French/Spanish or other European language
  • Located in or willing to relocate within commuting distance to one of Alan's hubs
