About the role

At Alan, research is a compass that grounds product decisions in what members need and experience. The Senior User Researcher will gather and prioritize key questions, design appropriate research (interviews, diary studies, surveys, usability sessions) across the full product cycle, translate findings into actionable insights, collaborate with Product, Design, Engineering, analytics, and data science, and grow the research culture through mentoring.

Responsibilities

  • Gather and prioritize the most important questions from across the company and design the right research to answer them
  • Run interviews, diary studies, surveys, and usability sessions throughout the full product cycle
  • Turn findings into clear, compelling insights useful to teams
  • Work with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers and collaborate with analytics and data science to tell a complete product story
  • Help grow research culture across Alan and mentor teammates with your craft

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience as a product/user researcher in a tech environment with hands-on qualitative methods (interviews, diary studies, think-aloud usability testing, direct observation)
  • Solid quantitative research skills (survey design, sampling, crosstabs, core statistical concepts)
  • Sharp critical thinking with ability to scope and deliver focused, actionable insights
  • Strategic mindset with ability to partner with product stakeholders and tie findings to business impact
  • Compelling communication skills to translate findings into clear narratives
  • Experience mentoring junior researchers or non-researchers
  • Familiarity with AI and understanding of LLM systems in production (preferred)
  • Cares about healthcare and aligns with Alan's mission
  • English fluency (written and spoken)
  • French, Spanish, or another European language (plus)
  • Location-flexibility to be based near hubs with onsite presence
